Description

Two Japanese woodblock prints of varying periods. The first is an illustrative narrative scene from the ukiyo-e series Kannon Reigenki (Miracles of Kannon) by Utagawa Toyokuni III (Kunisada). The second print is a mid-twentieth-century woodblock reproduction of Katsushika Hokusai’s Poppies from the Large Flowers series. It includes the facsimile signature and seals of Hokusai. This print features a red margin stamp transcribing as Supervised by Takamizawa Tadao, identifying it as a professional reproduction published by the Takamizawa company. Both prints are unframed. Larger print 14 1/4 x 9 7/8 inches. Location: 14C

Condition report:

The Kannon Reigenki print is in fair to poor condition, with substantial paper loss and fraying along the left edge, overall toning, foxing, and adhesive residue on the reverse from previous mounting. The Hokusai reproduction is in generally good condition with minor toning and a small spot of discoloration in the upper right field.
