Description
American School (19th Century). Oil on canvas, Portrait of a Woman. Appears unsigned. 24 x 20 1/2 in.
From the Woodstock, New York estate of music manager Albert Grossman, best known for managing artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, and Peter, Paul and Mary.
Condition report:
Significant structural damage including a vertical tear approximately two inches long in the upper left background. Widespread small paint losses, flaking, and abrasions are present, particularly concentrated along the lower and side edges. The canvas edges are frayed with visible old tack holes. The surface exhibits general grime and moderate craquelure throughout. Minor staining and discoloration are present on the verso.
