Description

12 Dell Publishing paper comic books featuring Marge’s Little Lulu, dating from 1951 through 1954. The assembly includes issue numbers 31, 32, 43, 54, 55, 58, 59, 60, 62, 65, and 77, along with the 1953 Little Lulu Tubby Annual number 1. These publications feature the characters created by Marjorie Henderson Buell (American, 1904-1975), with stories and illustrations by John Stanley (American, 1914-1993) and Irving Tripp (American, 1921-2009).

The comic books are constructed with stapled color-printed paper wraps and newsprint interiors. Cover illustrations depict various humorous vignettes, such as Lulu and Tubby in a hospital zone, at a bus stop, and participating in a talent show. The 1953 annual cover shows the main characters riding a roller coaster. The back covers and interior pages include period advertisements for items such as Wheaties breakfast cereal and novelty license plates.

Condition report:

These ungraded comic books are in fair to good condition, showing moderate to significant signs of handling and age. Issue 43 has a large section of paper missing from the lower left corner and spine. Issue 32 exhibits spine splitting, chipping, and a partially detached cover. The group generally shows spine stress lines, blunted or creased corners, edge chipping, and minor surface soiling. Pencil notations are present on several covers in the upper margins. The newsprint interior pages show age-related toning but appear complete.
