Description

This modular four-section filing cabinet and coordinating footstool are constructed from oak with visible quartersawn grain on various panels. The cabinet is designed in a stackable configuration, consisting of a separate base plinth, three large file drawer modules, and a top cupboard section. The top cupboard features a single side-hinged door with an ornate turned metal knob. Each filing drawer is equipped with original hardware in an aged brass or bronze finish, including a central bail pull, a rectangular label holder, and a drawer-locking rod. The drawer interiors are constructed of painted metal and contain adjustable compressor slides. The individual modules are connected and secured by horizontal metal bands with latch mechanisms at the corners. The coordinating oak footstool features a scalloped apron and shaped legs. The back of the unit is composed of four separate secondary wood panels secured with visible nails. 69.5″ H x 18″ W x 26″ D.

Condition report:

The unit shows moderate wear consistent with age and industrial use. The exterior oak finish exhibits scattered scratches, scuffs, and areas of darkening, particularly on the top corner. There is a visible chip on the wood trim near the bottom drawer rod and minor splintering at the edges of the internal drawer housings. Significant separation is visible between the stacked modules and the back panels. The metal banding and drawer hardware show oxidation, heavy patina, and loss of original plated finish. The painted metal interiors of the filing drawers exhibit heavy surface rust and oxidation spotting. The coordinating footstool shows minor scuffs and surface wear to the edges.
