Description

Chinese Provincial style primitive credenza constructed of wood with a distressed red lacquer finish. The storage unit features three drawers arranged horizontally above a central two-door cabinet that opens to reveal a single interior shelf. The front panels are decorated with faint, hand-drawn black line illustrations depicting figural landscapes and floral motifs within recessed rectangular borders. The credenza is supported by low block feet and a shaped apron with scrolling details. The rectangular top surface is finished with a dark stain and features a significant overhang on the sides. Hardware includes brass ring pulls on circular backplates for the drawers and a large central brass faceplate with vertical pin latches for the cabinet doors. The interior wood has a dark, unfinished appearance. 32" H x 69 1/2" W x 20" D.

From the Woodstock, New York estate of music manager Albert Grossman, best known for managing artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, and Peter, Paul and Mary.

Condition report:

Distressed primitive condition. Significant wear, chipping, and loss to the red lacquer finish is visible throughout all exterior surfaces. The top surface exhibits heavy wear and finish degradation. A small cluster of white paint splatters is present on the left cabinet door. Hand-drawn illustrations show fading and wear. Nicks, scratches, and dings consistent with age and primitive character are present across the wood body.
