Description

Primitive hardwood farmhouse table with a rectangular top constructed from multiple wide solid planks. The base features a sturdy frame with four thick square-hewn legs. The legs are joined by a low-set H-stretcher providing additional stability. The entire piece displays a dark heavily aged patina with evidence of hand-tooling and an uneven character-filled surface texture. Construction details include visible mortise and tenon joints with wooden pegs. 32" H x 75" W x 30 1/2" D.

From the Woodstock, New York estate of music manager Albert Grossman, best known for managing artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, and Peter, Paul and Mary.

Condition report:

Distressed, primitive condition consistent with significant age and utilitarian use. The top displays numerous surface scratches, gouges, dark staining, and minor separations between the planks. The base exhibits severe wear including substantial wood loss and areas of dry rot. Extensive historic insect damage with visible exit holes is present on the legs and stretchers. Several joints show gaps and the feet are heavily worn with missing wood.
