Description
Buffalo Co-Operative Stove Amherst No. 15 C parlor stove. Victorian style cylinder parlor stove constructed of steel and cast iron with nickel-plated or brass-finished accents. The cylindrical firebox is seated on a separate matching stand with cabriole legs and ornate floral relief moldings. The loading doors contain mica window panes, and the upper section is embellished with ceramic medallions, including one blue medallion with a profile portrait and one orange sunburst medallion. A decorative domed cover is surmounted by a finial urn with scrolling handles, and a side-mounted flue pipe is attached to the rear. Marked on the front Buffalo Co-Operative Stove and Amherst. 47" H x 18 1/2" W x 23" D. 8 1/2" H x 22 1/2" W x 25" D.
From the Woodstock, New York estate of music manager Albert Grossman, best known for managing artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, and Peter, Paul and Mary.
Condition report:
The cast iron housing exhibits a large crack at the lower section, and the firepot lining shows a severe internal crack. Multiple mica window panes are missing or broken. The left side is missing two decorative finials, and one ceramic medallion is missing from the upper cylinder. Surface oxidation and heavy soot deposits are present throughout. One of the scrolled arms on the topmost decorative finial is loose.
