Description
United States Army Model 1858 pattern "bullseye" canteen. The body is constructed of two pressed tin plates joined at the rim, designed for increased structural strength during field use. The canteen retains a heavily worn two-piece textile cover, featuring a dark blue wool base with an orange-brown textile layer or repair applied to the reverse. Three rectangular tin loops for a shoulder strap are soldered to the rim. The spout is composed of white metal and displays the incised characters C B. A period-style stopper is included, consisting of a cork body with a metal cap and an iron pull ring attached via a threaded screw mechanism. 10" H x 8" W x 1" D.

Condition report:
The textile cover is in poor condition with extensive fraying, shredding, and material loss, particularly along the edges and across the corrugated rings. The underlying tin body shows surface oxidation, minor denting, and scattered staining to the fabric. All three strap loops remain intact but exhibit surface rust. The white metal spout is secure with visible oxidation and wear to the incised initials. The stopper cork is dried with minor chipping, and the iron pull ring and screw mechanism show heavy surface rust.
