The Gentleman's Collection
Lot 47:
Description
J. Schader (American, active late 20th century). Mixed media sculpture consisting of a stylized knife mounted within a natural conch shell holder. The knife features a handle carved from a single piece of honey-colored amber with visible internal inclusions and a natural, textured exterior surface. The blade is fashioned from polished green nephrite jade with dark mineral mottling. A thin black spacer separates the handle from the blade. The shell is secured via a metal pin to an oval-shaped, dark-stained walnut base. The sculpture is designed as a vertical assemblage with the jade blade resting within the interior cavity of the shell. Marked on the underside J. SCHADER 95. Location: 14C
Condition report:
The amber handle and nephrite jade blade appear to be in good stable condition with no visible chips or cracks. The natural shell holder shows typical surface texture and calcification. The metal mounting pin is present; however, the shell is currently loose on the wooden base and requires tightening. The wooden base exhibits minor surface wear consistent with age.
