Description
A pair of silver-plated urns in the Victorian Neo-Rococo style. Each urn features a bulbous body decorated with high-relief repoussé floral swags, scrolled cartouches, and acanthus leaves. The flared rims are designed with an openwork foliate pattern. The body of each urn is supported by three cast winged cherubic or sphinx-like figures that transition into scrolled legs and terminate in paw feet. The urns are mounted on triangular marble bases with concave sides, exhibiting a mottled red and black coloration. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are present. Height: 11.5 inches. Location: 20B
Condition report:
The pair exhibits extensive wear and rubbing to the silver plating, revealing the base metal on high-relief areas and the main bodies. Moderate to heavy tarnish and oxidation are visible across all metal surfaces, along with localized spots of green verdigris on the cast supports. The interiors show significant corrosion and mineral buildup. Condition issues to the marble include a large chip on the underside edge of one base and deep gouges and scratches on the underside of the other. The felt pads on the bottom are worn or missing.
