Description
Emil Axel Petersen (Denmark 1866-1927). The composition features a large three-masted sailing ship navigating a choppy blue sea under a sky filled with cumulus clouds. In the middle distance, multiple small vessels with lateen sails are visible. The painting is signed Em A Petersen in the lower left corner and inscribed Barcelona in the lower right corner. It is housed in a broad, multi-tiered gilt wood frame. 42 x 29.5 inches (framed), 26 x 23 inches (sight size).

Condition report:
The painting exhibits a prominent area of concentric spiral craquelure in the upper central sky, likely caused by a localized impact to the canvas. There are minor abrasions and small nicks to the gilding on the frame. The surface shows a light layer of dust and dirt consistent with age. The frame backing has been replaced with modern materials.
