Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). Triple Bill – Covent Garden Tragedy and A Most Unwarrantable Intrusion. 24 pieces original costume design artwork. 15 mixed media with gouache and ink on paper: 14 for Covent Garden Tragedy and 1 for A Most Unwarrantable Intrusion. Various characters, including 3 Stormandra (Louise Purnell), Nonparel (Anna Carteret), 2 Lovegirlo (Charles Kay), Leathersides (Philip Locke), Captain Bilkum (Roger Forbes), Lord, Mother Punchbowl (Angela Baddeley), Little Virgin (Helen Bourne), Chairman (Reginald Green), Gallono (Bernard Gallagher), Squire (Patrick Carter), Mr. Nathan Snoozle (Gerald James). Most with character and actor names handwritten in ink and pencil, some with additional notations in the margins, Mr. Snoozle with attached fabric swatch. 4 initialed TW and mounted, others unsigned. With a group of 9 pencil and ink costume sketches on paper, various characters. Mr. Nathan Snoozle sheet 22 3/4" x 15 1/4" (25 1/4" x 18" with mount). All as is and in production used condition. Created by Tony Walton for the West End productions of A Most Unwarrantable Intrusion and Covent Garden Tragedy, National Theatre, 1968. Together with In His Own Write (The Lennon Play), the three productions made up "Triple Bill". Unwarrantable was the first part, Covent Garden the second, and In His Own Write the third.
