Tony Walton (British, 1934-2022). The Wiz (film). Original production sketchbook. Book containing original concept and preliminary art for various locations / scenic design elements. 70+ images, most photographs with hand painted acetate overlays, some collage with printed paper, 1 yellow brick road with no overlay. Most in large book, with some loose pages and additional photograph collages. Graffiti City Playground 4 3/4" x 6 1/4", Brooklyn Bridge Yellow Brick Road 5" x 11 1/2", book 12 7/8" x 16 1/2" x 1 1/2". As is and in production used condition, some paint loss to acetate overlays, creases to pages, some images partially detached from pages, some loose pages. Created by Tony Walton for the film The Wiz, Universal, 1978. Tony Walton was the production designer and did the costumes for The Wiz, and was nominated for 2 Academy Awards in 1979 – Best Costume Design, and Best Art Direction – for his work on the film.
