Description
Large Rococo style giltwood wall mirror. Central rectangular mirror plate surrounded by segmented border plates. Elaborate cresting with symmetrical acanthus leaf scrolls. 61″ x 36″.
Condition report:
The mirror shows wear consistent with age, including scattered losses to the gilding on the carved elements, revealing the underlying red bole and white gesso. Several visible cracks and stable fractures are present in the foliate scrolls. There is evidence of past repairs to the carving. The mirror plates exhibit localized desilvering and oxidation typical of age. The reverse frame has been reinforced with a modern vertical timber support.
