Description
Three-piece ormolu vanity garniture set comprising a central jewelry box and a pair of matching single-light candlesticks, all featuring classical motifs in the Rococo Revival style. The central jewelry box is designed in an oval form with a hinged lid, surmounted by a cast figural group of Diana the Huntress. The piece is supported by a wide, integral base with scrollwork feet, foliate swags, and animal masks. A keyhole is present on the front, though no key is included. The matching candlesticks feature foliate drip pans and nozzles over baluster stems decorated with cherub masks. The undersides of the candlesticks are weighted; one retains a white adhesive label handwritten with P252. Jewelry box: 8″ H x 11″ W x 8″ D.
Condition report:
Overall very good decorative condition with wear consistent with age. There is visible wear and thinning to the gilding on the high points of the relief work and along the edges of the bases. The interior floor of the jewelry box shows significant oxidation and rust. Minor spots of oxidation are present on the interior of the lid. One candlestick is missing a felt pad on the underside. Light surface grime is present within the deep recesses of the casting. The key for the jewelry box lock is missing.
