Description
A monumental Victorian style silver plated centerpiece of multi-tiered construction. The upper portion features a trumpet-form vase flanked by two seated putti, one holding a bird and the other a lyre. The central bowl rests on three mermaid caryatid supports that flow into scrolling foliate legs with paw feet. A smaller seated cherub is positioned at the center of the tripartite base. Decorative elements include gadrooned rope-twist borders and etched foliate patterns on the bowl interior and vase rim. No manufacturer marks or hallmarks were observed on the metal surfaces. 27 1/2″ H x 16 1/2″ diameter.
Condition report:
The centerpiece exhibits significant and heavy tarnish throughout. There is extensive silver plating loss on all figural elements and decorative high points, revealing an underlying yellow-toned base metal. General surface scratches and wear consistent with age and display are present. No structural breaks or repairs were noted.
