Description
Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (French, 1824-1887). Large polychrome bisque porcelain bust of a woman. The bust is supported by an integral multi-tiered porcelain pedestal base. The base features gilded leaf-and-dart molding, a silvered cylindrical section, and square tiers decorated with pink floral registers and hand-painted faux-marble panels. Signed on the reverse shoulder of the bust. 27″ H x 15″ W x 7″ D.
Condition report:
The bust is in generally good condition for its age with some visible defects. There is a significant loss to the silvered finish on the cylindrical section of the pedestal. A hairline crack is present on the underside of the square porcelain base, running from the central mounting hardware toward one corner. Minor rubbing and wear are visible on the gilding at high points and along the edges. The central mounting nut and bolt on the underside show heavy oxidation and rust. There are minor chips and wear to the joinery between the bust and the pedestal. The polychrome surfaces show light surface grime and general age-related wear. The underside of the base is marked with the handwritten number 220.
