Description

After Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). Pair of Japanese woodblock prints after Hiroshige from the series Famous Views of Kyoto. Both prints bear the printed artist’s signature Hiroshige ga and associated red artist seals. The Kinkaku-ji print features a vertical margin inscription on the left for the publisher Uchida Art Gallery and a red circular publisher’s seal in the lower-left corner. These are mid-20th-century reprints. Each sheet 10 x 15 inches.

Condition report:

Both prints exhibit overall toning, light foxing, and minor edge wear. The Yodo River print shows several areas of notable surface abrasions and pigment loss, particularly on the roof of the large boat and on various figures.
