Description
Two Japanese woodblock prints, including one tall vertical print attributed to Kitagawa Utamaro (Japanese, 1753-1806). The print features several Japanese inscriptions, including the series title Seiro Niwaka Onna Geisha Kawari (The Geisha Festival in the Yoshiwara) and a reference to the kabuki play Ashidaya Doman Ouchi Kagami. The work is signed Utamaro hitsu on the right side and bears a publisher mark at the bottom. The second print is a modern graphic work featuring two white swans swimming on a black ground under strands of hanging green and blue foliage. This print is signed with a white monogram MK in the lower right corner. Both works are unframed. Larger print 12 3/4 x 8 1/4 inches.
Condition report:
The woodblock print shows overall toning across the paper surface, with minor edge wear and small losses visible along the margins. There are some light creases and small instances of foxing throughout. The colors show some degree of fading. The modern swan print is in good condition with sharp colors and no significant visible wear.
