Description
Mizuno Toshikata (Japanese, 1866-1908). Pair of woodblock prints. The first print is from the series Sanjuroku Kasen (Selection of 36 Beauties) and is titled ‘Koto.’ This sheet bears the Toshikata signature and a red gourd seal in the lower right. The second print is from the series Bijin Hana-kurabe (Beauty Flower Competition), specifically the ‘Peony’ installment. Inscriptions in the left margin provide a publication date of Meiji 26 (1893). This sheet is also signed by the artist on the right side. 13 7/8 x 9 1/4 inches. Location: 14C
Condition report:
Both prints exhibit overall paper toning and scattered foxing consistent with age. There is visible surface soiling and minor wear to the edges of the sheets, including a small area of loss or darkening at the upper left corner of the festival print. The verso of each sheet shows light staining and remnants of previous adhesive mounting.
