Description
A matched pair of large-scale cast iron pedestal planters. Each planter features a shallow circular basin surrounded by an open-slatted vertical metal gallery. The basins are supported by central pedestals featuring fluted, bulbous lower sections. The tripartite bases are heavily ornamented with scrolling acanthus leaf motifs at the knees and terminate in bold, well-defined lion’s paw feet. The items are finished in a dark, matte black or bronze coating. No maker’s marks, factory stamps, or signatures were found on the base, underside, or body of these items. 33 inches H x 31 inches D. This lot is located offsite in Rumson, New Jersey and will be available for PICKUP ONLY. Condition report:
The planters are in excellent condition. Both units are structurally sound with no visible cracks, breaks, or repairs. Minor cosmetic issues include small scuffs and surface scratches to the finish. One planter shows a small patch of finish loss on the underside of the basin. There are no signs of heavy oxidation or weathering, suggesting they have been kept in a protected or interior environment.
