Description
A pair of Mastro Cappellini three-drawer bedside chests or small commodes in the Louis XVI style. The chests feature elaborate marquetry and parquetry work using various fruitwood, walnut, and mahogany veneers. The secondary wood used in the drawer construction is a light-colored hardwood. Each chest contains three drawers featuring machine-cut dovetail joinery. The hardware consists of gilt-brass neoclassical oval ring pulls with relief-decorated backplates showing classical figures. Each piece is marked with a small rectangular brass plaque inset into the front right corner. 27″ H x 21.5″ W x 14″ D.
Condition report:
The pair is in good overall condition with signs of light wear consistent with age and use. There are minor scattered nicks and small chips to the veneer and finish, particularly at the corners and along the lower edges. One chest has a small, dark blemish on the top surface. One chest has some veneer lifting at the center of the bottom drawer. The hardware shows light tarnish but remains functional. One drawer pull is missing its ring.
