Description
This side cabinet is designed in the Napoleon III style and features wood construction with mahogany and fruitwood veneers arranged in chevron parquetry with string-inlay marquetry. The cabinet is topped with a thick, beveled slab of variegated pink and reddish-brown marble. Cast metal mounts are present throughout the exterior, including female caryatid figures with feathered headpieces at the upper corners. The single frieze drawer is decorated with a continuous mount of scrolling acanthus leaves and floral rosettes. Additional acanthus leaf mounts adorn the lower corners of the case, and the four tapered legs terminate in metal sabots. The hinged door opens to an interior with a single fixed shelf. A single key is present, but the door lock is not functional. 46″ H x 29″ W x 14″ D.
Condition report:
The cabinet is structurally sound. There is significant finish loss and gouging on the rail above the door. A large chip and gouge are present on the back right corner. The interior bottom shelf displays light scratches and a circular liquid stain. The door lock is non-functional. General scuffs, small nicks, and finish wear are visible on the legs and corners. The marble top shows minor surface wear and small nicks along the beveled edges.
