Description
A large French porcelain amphora vase featuring a cobalt blue ground and ornate gilt bronze ormolu mounts. The ovoid body is flanked by twin gilt bronze handles modeled as classical female caryatids holding laurel wreath ring loops. The piece is supported by a shaped, four-footed gilt bronze plinth base decorated with scrolling and foliate motifs. The porcelain body is embellished with hand-painted gilt foliate scrolls, floral sprays, and geometric borders. Two central oval reserves are framed with raised, jeweled white enamel beading. The vase includes a removable top assembly and a metal interior liner. No factory or maker marks are visible on the porcelain or metal components. 22″ H x 9″ W x 7″ D. Location: 3C
Condition report:
The vase is in overall very good condition consistent with age. There is minor rubbing and wear to the gilding on the metal handles and base. The bronze components show light tarnish and surface patina, specifically on the interior of the neck and the underside of the base. The porcelain body is free of any visible chips, cracks, or repairs. Four felt pads have been applied to the underside of the feet.
