Description

Jerome Howes (New York/Massachusetts 1955). A large maritime painting depicting the American ship Adams navigating a choppy sea under a soft, clouded sky at sunset or sunrise. The central vessel features a black and white hull with the name ADAMS painted in yellow on the bow. The work is signed Jerome Howes in red script in the lower right corner. The painting is executed on a fiberboard panel and is housed in a contemporary giltwood frame with a foliate-molded inner border. The verso shows the unfinished board with a hanging wire. Eldred’s September 13 2024 Lot 8763. 23.5 x 35.5 inches (sight); 29 x 42 x 2 inches (frame).

Location: Bin 40

Condition report:

The painting is in very good condition with vibrant colors and an intact surface. There is no visible evidence of paint loss, craquelure, or restoration. Minor surface dust is present. The gilt frame shows minor scuffs and small nicks along the edges consistent with handling, but remains structurally sound.
