Description
This pair of three-arm candelabra is constructed from silver-plated copper in the Rococo Revival style. Each piece features a baluster-form stem with multiple knops, supported by a shaped square base with scrolled and shell-form borders. The central candle cup is flanked by two scrolling arms embellished with cast acanthus leaf and floral motifs. Each of the three square-form candle cups is fitted with a wide, matching ornate bobeche. The underside of one base is stamped SILVER ON COPPER along with an illegible maker mark. 18″ H x 16.5″ W x 6″ D.
Condition report:
Both candelabra exhibit heavy multicolored tarnish throughout, including iridescent blue, purple, and gold tones. There is significant wear to the silver plating on high points and edges, revealing the underlying copper base metal. Minor candle wax residue is present in the cups. One arm on one candelabrum is slightly misaligned. The underside of one base has been fitted with a modern hex nut to secure the central threaded rod. Minor surface scratches and scuffs are consistent with age and use.
