Description
This pair of color woodblock prints (ukiyo-e) are mid-20th-century re-strikes of designs from the series Toto Meisho (Famous Places of the Eastern Capital) by Utagawa Hiroshige (1797-1858). One print depicts the scene Susaki yuki no hatsuhi (First Sun at Susaki in Snow), showing a snow-covered coastal landscape at sunrise. The second print depicts Gotenyama yuzakura (Evening Cherry Blossoms at Gotenyama), featuring figures walking among flowering trees with boats in the distance. Both prints bear the artist’s printed signature Ichiyusai Hiroshige ga. The right margins include vertical publisher’s marks for Eisendo (Kawaguchi Shozo) and the address Edo Kyobashi Ginza Yonchome. The prints are executed on clean paper with vibrant pigments and show typical pigment bleed-through on the reverse.
Sheet size approximately 9.5 x 15 inches.
