Description
A decorative wrought iron birdcage on a matching integrated stand, circa 1950s, designed in the Victorian revival style. The rectangular cage features a prominent semi-circular domed top with radiating metal rods and a central circular woven medallion. The stand is constructed with a scrollwork apron and four twisted-iron legs joined by decorative heart-shaped stretchers. The entire ensemble has a distressed greenish-grey painted finish. The interior contains two small decorative birds composed of dried botanical or paper materials and artificial ivy with berries. 45″ H x 24″ W x 16″ D.
Condition report:
The piece is in good decorative condition with surface oxidation, paint loss, and wear consistent with age. Wirework exhibits minor irregularities and slight bends. The interior artificial foliage and decorative birds are in poor condition with significant material degradation and debris on the cage floor.
