Description
A Victorian Chinoiserie fireplace screen featuring a frame constructed of genuine bamboo with a dark honey-brown stained finish. The frame is designed with an asymmetrical pagoda-style top and decorative fretwork on the sides and base. The central rectangular panel is composed of textured clear glass with a radiating starburst or cracked ice pattern. The glass is hand-painted with a naturalistic scene of cream and copper-toned blossoms, a blue songbird, and a yellow butterfly in flight. The screen stands on four splayed bamboo legs for stability. 46″ H x 29.5″ W x 10″ D.
Condition report:
The bamboo frame shows minor surface scuffs, finish wear, and age-appropriate patination at the joints and feet. The hand-painted decoration on the glass panel shows significant areas of flaking and paint loss, most notably in the green foliage and some flower petals. The textured glass panel is intact with no visible cracks or chips.
