Description
This floor standing shaving stand is constructed from a warm-toned hardwood and features a central square-section post topped with a black-painted spherical finial. A rectangular framed mirror is mounted to the post and is vertically adjustable by way of a brass strap bracket on the reverse side. Positioned below the mirror is a single small drawer with a metal-lined interior, likely zinc or lead, designed for holding wet shaving tools. The piece is supported by a tripod base consisting of three curved, out-swept legs joined to a central cylindrical hub finished in black paint. There are no visible maker marks, signatures, or factory stamps on the piece. 60″ H x 20″ W x 20″ D.
Condition report:
The shaving stand shows wear consistent with age and use. The mirror glass exhibits heavy desilvering and reddish-brown oxidation across the majority of the surface. Scratches, scuffs, and small indentations are present throughout the wooden frame and stand. There are visible chips and wood losses to the feet. The black-painted finish on the top finial and base hub is chipped and worn. The drawer is missing its pull or knob, leaving an open hole on the face, and the metal lining shows significant oxidation and darkening. Several old, unfilled screw holes are present on the reverse of the mirror frame.
