Description
Large earthenware handled globular jar with three small loop handles. The vessel is constructed of reddish-brown terracotta featuring a variegated, unglazed surface. The exterior exhibits naturalistic fire-clouding and mineral staining in variegated shades of charcoal, dark green, and ochre. Unsigned. 17 1/2" H x 16" diameter.
From the Woodstock, New York estate of music manager Albert Grossman, best known for managing artists including Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, The Band, and Peter, Paul and Mary.
Condition report:
There is a large chip to the rim. The jar displays scattered minor surface abrasions, small nicks to the handles, and general wear consistent with age and utilitarian use. The rounded base is stable.
