Description
Pair of Bohemian cobalt blue overlay glass lustres, late 19th or early 20th century. The lustres feature flared, scalloped rim bowls supported by baluster stems on circular bases. The cobalt blue glass is cased over clear crystal, decorated with hand-painted floral and scrollwork gilding alongside cut-to-clear circular patterns. Each lustre is dressed with clear cut-glass prisms, comprising octagonal buttons and long notched prisms terminating in points. Unsigned. 12 1/2″ H x 6″ diameter.
Location: 8C
Condition report:
The lustres show moderate wear to the gilded highlights throughout, consistent with age and handling. There are detached and broken prism components, including one complete long prism, an octagonal button, and a broken pointed tip. Several metal attachment wires on the bowls are empty, indicating missing prisms. No major chips or cracks to the main cobalt glass bodies are present.
