Description
An American early 20th-century single-door bookcase or display cabinet constructed from quartersawn oak and bird’s-eye maple. The exterior features quartersawn oak with characteristic graining on the overhanging top, sides, and door frame. The single large glazed door opens to reveal an interior lined with bird’s-eye maple veneer, containing three adjustable wooden shelves supported by side-mounted pin holes. The cabinet is finished with a recessed plinth base. A decorative brass escutcheon is fitted to the door and includes a functioning skeleton key with a four-lobed bow. 51 1/2″ H x 25″ W x 13″ D.
Condition report:
The item is in fair to good antique condition with visible signs of use and age. The oak exterior shows general surface wear, minor scuffs, and small indentations throughout. The adjustable interior shelves exhibit significant surface staining, including several dark ring marks and water spots. The backboard shows significant peeling and losses to the outer veneer layer, most notably along the bottom edge and in a vertical strip on the right side. The metal escutcheon and key show natural oxidation and patina consistent with age. The glass is intact without cracks or major chips.
