Description
Matt Baker (American, 1921-1959). Paper comic book, Lucy the Real Gone Gal No. 1, 1953. This premiere Golden Age comic book includes Good Girl Art (GGA) on the cover and interior pages. The publication contains humor-themed comic strips centered on the character Lucy. The magazine-format comic is constructed of staple-bound newsprint with a color-printed paper cover. The front cover illustration shows figures on a beach, and the interior pages are printed in color. The back cover contains a color advertisement for Harford Frocks, Inc. with a mail-in coupon.
Condition report:
Spine displays significant wear with numerous stress lines, color breaking, and minor tearing at the top and bottom ends (Photo 1). The two staples exhibit light oxidation (Photo 3). The front cover shows overall toning, a horizontal crease in the upper left corner, and a small circular moisture stain in the sky area (Photo 1). Corners are slightly blunted. The back cover shows heavy tanning and foxing throughout (Photo 5). Interior pages are age-toned to a cream color (Photo 4).
